John 6:54
54 Whoever eats my flesh and
drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.
Mark 14:22-24
22 While they were eating, Jesus
took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his
disciples, saying, “Take it; this is my body.”23 Then he took a cup, and when he
had given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it.24 “This is my blood of the[a] covenant, which
is poured out for many,” he said to them.
Acts 2:46
46 Every day they continued to
meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes
and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
1 Corinthians 10:16
16 Is not the cup of thanksgiving
for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not
the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?
1 Corinthians 11:28-29
28 Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. 29 For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. |

Luke
16:19-31
Lazarus and the rich
man 19 “There was a
rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every
day. 20 At his gate was
laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the
rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.22 “The
time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s
side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he
looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father
Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger
in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’25 “But
Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your
good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted
here and you are in agony. 26 And
besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so
that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over
from there to us.’27 “He answered,
‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family, 28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn
them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’29 “Abraham
replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen
to them.’30 “‘No, father
Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to
them, they will repent.’31 “He said to
him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be
convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’” Luke
12:13-21
13 Someone in the crowd said to
him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with
me.”14 Jesus
replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter
between you?” 15 Then he said to
them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds
of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
16 And he told them this
parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an
abundant harvest. 17 He thought to
himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’
18 “Then he said,
‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger
ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many
years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’
20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’21 “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.” |

The Sheep and the Goats
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels
with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before
him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd
separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He
will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.34 “Then
the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by
my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the
creation of the world. 35 For
I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me
something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed
me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you
came to visit me.’37 “Then the righteous
will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or
thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When
did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or
needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When
did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’40 “The
King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the
least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’41 “Then
he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are
cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his
angels. 42 For I was hungry and
you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite
me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison
and you did not look after me.’ 44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” The Ten
Commandments Exodus 20 20 And God spoke all these words: 2 “I am the Lord your
God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 3 “You
shall have no other gods before[a] me. 4 “You
shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above
or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. 5 You shall not bow down to them or
worship them; for I, the Lord your
God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the
parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but showing love to a
thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments. 7 “You
shall not misuse the name of the Lord your
God, for the Lord will
not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. 8 “Remember
the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your
work, 10 but the seventh
day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor
your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor
any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For
in six days the Lord made the heavens and the
earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the
seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed
the Sabbath day and made it holy. 12 “Honor
your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the
land the Lord your
God is giving you. 13 “You
shall not murder. 14 “You
shall not commit adultery. 15 “You
shall not steal. 16 “You
shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. 17 “You
shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your
neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or
anything that belongs to your neighbor.” |
